Winterim 2025 - International Experience

During Winterim 2025, the UW MBA Consortium will be holding its first international experience in the vibrant cities of Madrid, Spain, and Lisbon, Portugal. This unique 1-credit directed project course will give students the chance to immerse themselves in the rich cultural tapestry of Spain and Portugal by participating in curated city tours and authentic cultural experiences that offer invaluable insights into the societal influences on business operations. This experience is also designed to deepen students’ understanding of the diverse economic environments and business practices in the Iberian Peninsula. Through direct engagement with local, regional, national, and international companies, students will explore the unique challenges and opportunities that shape the region's markets.


Trip Overview

Time Frame: January 2025 (Trip dates are 1/11/25 –1/20/25)

Destination: Lisbon, Portugal and Madrid, Spain

Lodging: 4-star hotel (Jupiter Lisboa Hotel in Lisbon and AC Hotel Avenida de America Hotel in Madrid)

Course Information: 1-credit faculty-led directed project course (MBA 796)

Group Size: Aiming for a group of 15-25 students plus two Consortium faculty/staff members

Sample Activities:

  • Business meetings with high-level business executives
  • City tour of Lisbon
  • City tour of Madrid
  • Vineyard visit with wine tasting
  • Sintra (with National Palace of Pena entrance) and Cascais excursion tour

Withdrawal/Cancellation Charge

In the event that a registered student needs to withdraw from the course and cancel the international experience, they will be responsible for contacting their program advisor and course instructor to complete the required forms. The student will also incur a withdrawal/cancellation charge of:

0% of the total charges for any withdrawal/cancellation between 9/9/2024 – 10/11/2024
25% of the total charges for any withdrawal/cancellation between 10/12/2024 – 11/9/2024
50% of the total charges for any withdrawal/cancellation between 11/10/2024 – 12/9/2024
75% of the total charges for any withdrawal/cancellation between 12/10/2024 – 12/24/2024
100% of the total charges for any withdrawal/cancellation between 12/25/2024 – 1/9/2025

Registration Process

Enrollment involves a two-part registration process:

  1. Step 1: Register on Austral Group’s Platform

    Students must first register through the Austral Group’s registration platform. Please note that registration on this platform will close on October 3, 2024.


  2. Step 2: Enroll in the Course on CampS

    Once registered with Austral Group, the MBA staff will send an email to confirm permission for students to enroll in the course MBA 796.840 in CampS. Enrollment in CampS should be completed between October 7-11, 2024.
